The 1st Regiment Infantry is mustered into Federal service in Philadelphia.

August 5

They are drafted into Federal Service.

October 11

Consolidated with the 13th Infantry, Pennsylvania National Guard (organized in 1877); consolidated unit designated as the109th Infantry and assigned t o the 28th Division

1919

May 17-20

Demobilized at Camp Dix, New Jersey

Edward Shenton

The uniform and overseas cap of Corporal Henry “Ed” Shenton, Company B 103rd Engineer Regiment.

 Ed Shenton’s collection of sketch books drawn during his service with the 103rd are a treasure trove of what he experienced in WWI.   In later years Shenton became a successful illustrator of books and magazines, and later taught Illustration at the Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.
